Public Consultation
Berri Regional Childcare Centre carpark
Pursuant to Section 223 of the Local Government Act 1999.
The Berri Barmera Council is seeking community feedback regarding a proposed permit to allow the Berri Regional Childcare Centre to undertake works which would allow for carparking on road reserve on Fiedler Street, Berri for use by the Childcare Centre.
At its meeting on 26 August 2025, Council passed a resolution:
MOTION: (OMC 165/25)
That Council,
1. note the formal request from Berri Regional Child Care Centre Inc. to enact Council’s in-principle support for use of the road reserve off Fiedler Street, Berri, to facilitate car parking associated with its approved expansion.
2. confirm its support for Administration proceeding by way of a Section 221 permit under the Local Government Act 1999 as the most appropriate mechanism to formalise short-to-medium term use of the road reserve for car parking.
3. reaffirm that further options for the long-term tenure and use of the land and surrounding areas in relation to car parking and childcare needs will continue to be investigated, with outcomes brought back to Council for consideration in due course.

The Berri Barmera Council has been in consultation with the Berri Regional Childcare Centre to facilitate parking options to allow the centre to expand. At its meeting in March 2025, Council agreed to provide in-principle support to the childcare centre for use of the road reserve in order to pursue State and Federal Government grant funding options.
The centre has since been successful in securing grant funding and therefore requested that Council enact its support through the formal approval process.
As part of the permit process, Council is required under the Local Government Act 1999 section 223 to undertake public consultation before granting a permit.
The proposed site concept plan is below.
