A Regional Disability Access and Inclusion Plan

Berri Barmera Council, Renmark Paringa Council and the District Council of Loxton Waikerie are working together on a joint Disability Access and Inclusion Plan (the Plan) for the Riverland region.

Councils are required by law to have a plan that sets out how they will make their communities more inclusive and accessible for people with disability.

By working together, we’re creating a united approach that reflects the needs of our whole region - not just individual council areas.

While the survey is hosted on Renmark Paringa Council's platform submissions from any council residents for the below survey will be considered as part of the regional plan.

The Plan will help guide how we:

  • Make public spaces, buildings, and facilities easier for everyone to use
  • Provide clear and accessible information
  • Support participation in community life
  • Make are towns more inclusive and accessible for all walks of life

We want to hear from you

We want to hear from everyone in our community, especially:

🟢 People with disability
🟢 Families and carers
🟢 Disability service providers and advocates

Your ideas will help shape actions that improve access and inclusion across our region.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

A Disability Access and Inclusion Plan (DAIP) is a document that sets out how councils will make their communities more inclusive and accessible for people with disability. It identifies practical actions to remove barriers and promote equal participation for everyone in community life.

Renmark Paringa Council, Berri Barmera Council, and the District Council of Loxton Waikerie have joined forces to develop a Regional DAIP.
By working together, we can create a coordinated, consistent approach that reflects the needs of the entire Riverland region, rather than three separate plans. This ensures shared learning, better use of resources, and a stronger regional voice.

All South Australian councils are required by the Disability Inclusion Act 2018 (SA) to develop, implement, and report on a Disability Access and Inclusion Plan.

The Plan will outline strategies and actions to:

  • Make public spaces, buildings, and facilities easier for everyone to use
  • Provide clear, accessible information and communication
  • Support people with disability to participate fully in community life
  • Make our towns more inclusive and welcoming for all

You can provide feedback by:

  1. Completing the online Disability Access and Inclusion Survey – hosted on Renmark Paringa Council’s engagement platform (open to all Riverland residents).
  2. Attending one of the community workshops listed below.
  3. Submitting written feedback to your local council if preferred.

All feedback - no matter which council you live in - will be considered as part of the Regional Plan.

🗓 Consultation opens: Monday 27 October 2025
🕔 Closes: 5:00pm, Monday 24 November 2025

You’re welcome to attend any session regardless of which council you live in.

After consultation closes on 24 November 2025, feedback will be reviewed and consolidated.

This will help shape the Draft Regional DAIP, which will:

  • Be developed and reviewed by the three councils
  • Go out for further public consultation in 2026
  • Be finalised and endorsed by each council once community feedback has been considered

The final Riverland Regional Disability Access and Inclusion Plan will be endorsed by all three councils following the draft consultation period in 2026.

Your feedback will directly influence the actions and priorities included in the Plan. Insights from residents, carers, service providers, and local organisations will ensure the Plan reflects real community needs and experiences.
